Spot Contract:

Current Exchange Rate
A spot contract is one of the most common foreign exchange products used to sell one currency and buy another. Whether you are an individual purchasing a property overseas, or a business looking to close a deal or buy goods, this is a product that you can use to help buy or sell currency for immediate settlement on the spot date.

A spot rate is the live market rate between two currencies. When the rate is secure, the transaction generally settles within T+2, which means transaction date plus two working days, although with the speed of bank to bank payments being almost instantaneous these days, a spot contract would usually settle the same day or next day. What this means is that you are reliant on the current market rate at the time the transaction is due to take place.

Forward Contract:

Secure an Exchange Rate
Forward contracts, are a simple risk management solution that allows you to secure an exchange rate today, but for settlement at a specific date in the future. The exchange rate is secure on the day that you come to an agreement, fixing the buy and sell amount, as well as the date on which the contract will mature. If you want to protect your foreign currency exposure from volatility then FX forwards is an effective hedging tool when it comes to future payments.

Market Orders:

Target an Exchange Rate
The currency markets are very volatile but it is possible to secure an exchange rate above the current market levels should you not be under time pressure to make a transaction.

Some business deals may rely on a specific price and with that comes the need to achieve a certain exchange rate and this is where a Market Order can help. This option executes when the exchange rate becomes available in the market. To ensure you react at the right time, you’ll need expert guidance as markets need tracking in real-time.

A market order will instruct NewbridgeFX that you want to achieve a certain exchange rate in the future and so, we work on your behalf, monitoring and tracking the currency markets waiting for the moment to arrive, ensuring you take action at the correct time. This will ensure that the exchange rate is secure for the agreed amount. But, it is important to understand that the exchange rate is not guaranteed, and the rate can only become booked should the market reach the desired level.

Exchange Rate Alerts:

Target an Exchange Rate
Transferring money internationally can become quite complex, especially when it comes to fluctuations between various currencies. Exchange rates change real-time, minute by minute and that can make transferring money and securing a suitable exchange rate a challenge. One rate you achieve today between two currencies is likely to be very different tomorrow. The impact of market shifts will depend on the reasons for making international payments. If it’s a one-off transfer to friends, family or to your own overseas account, then the impact might not be so noticeable. But, if you’re purchasing goods, property or for business reasons then the exchange rates are going to be very important to you.
